"We lose ourselves in the things we love. We find ourselves there also."

My typical day consists of tying shoes, answering the same question 6 times, and watching multiple nose pickers blatantly dig for gold while making direct eye contact with me. The life of an elementary teacher is far from boring. As many people like to constantly point out, teachers have the "summer off." *Insert heavy eye roll* Although I personally work 2 jobs year-round, in my free time you can catch me on one of the million outstanding trails in the PNW. Born and raised here, strangely I didn't get into hiking until a few years ago, and now, I'm making up for lost time! Between the creative and fun things we do in my classroom, and all of the incredible trails and views I explore, I thought using a blog as a platform to recount these memories would be something I could look back on years from now and cherish. If you choose to spend a portion of your own free time reading this, I will now disclaim that I am not a professional journalist, I suck with technology, and I'm surprised I even know what a blog is. Reader discretion is advised. And if you are reading this- thank a teacher.

At last, my love for coffee and teaching have come together in one place! Last year I had the idea of transforming my classroom into a coffee shop, and this year it has finally come to life!

This last weekend, I was able to attend The 2 Sisters Daily CAFE workshop. It was something I had been wanting to do since beginning my teaching career 4 years ago. These ladies have created such a phenomenal literacy program, focused on making students a better reader! And the best part is: it's not a curriculum... it's a framework that can be applied to any reader at any age, any level, any school district, and any classroom budget!

The premise of the program is that students learn and apply the four main components of reading, along with practicing the 5 framework categories at their own individual level. The four main components of reading are Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary (hence, the term CAFE). These 5 basic categories of the literacy framework consists of Reading to Self, Reading to Someone, Listening to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing. This is legitimately only the tip of the Daily CAFE iceberg! There is so much wealth in the knowledge they shared with us this weekend, and it made me so excited to get back to my classroom and put this into action!

https://www.thedailycafe.com/ <---- Here is their website if you'd like to check out the amazing info they have to offer and learn more about how it all works!

As much as I'd love to be "that teacher" that has a PINtastic classroom with every inch of space utilized in the cutest possible way... that's just not realistic for me. However, there are a couple projects that I like to focus on and get excited about each year. This year, my Starbooks CAFE wall is my little gem!

This is the CAFE wall, which includes a couple coffee tables for friends to practice their "Read to Someone" skill. This wall is interactive, and reading strategies will be added to the wall after each new skill has been taught!

I got all of this wall decor for free searching Pinterest for "Daily 5 posters" and "Starbooks" themed posters. I may or may not be more excited for this theme than my kiddos, but I know that implementing Daily CAFE into my classroom will beneficial for all of us! If you have any comments or advice on using the Daily 5, please let me know!! Happy teaching!
